About Take a Hike®
Take a Hike® offers FREE seasonal guided walking tours of unique and historic neighborhoods in Cleveland! Each tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. More than 38,000 people have enjoyed “taking a hike” to date. Keep in mind, “taking a hike” is more like taking a leisurely stroll.
SUMMER 2020 SEASON: Opens on June 1 and closes on September 30
FALL 2020 SEASON: Opens on October 3 and concludes November 21
Take a Hike® is supported by area residents through Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. The tours also receive generous support from Dollar Bank, Ohio & Erie Canalway Association, Downtown Cleveland Alliance and other community partners who value our educational and entertaining program!
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the tours kid friendly? Dog friendly?
YES! Our tour guides welcome families to join us on Take a Hike®, however the information tends to be of more interest to adults. Each neighborhood and guide gladly welcomes dogs! We even have a special treat for our furry friends that join the tour.
Where should I park?
The parking meters downtown are free on Saturdays and Sundays and also free after 6 PM on weekdays. Please read all parking-related signage on streets carefully to avoid getting parking tickets, especially in construction areas.
how many miles will I walk per tour?
Throughout each tour you will walk no more than 2 miles total, with periodic stopping at various destinations. Please feel encouraged to take any breaks as necessary. If you anticipate needing to stop mid-tour, you are welcome to rejoin the group at any point.
When should I arrive?
Each tour will begin promptly at its designated start time. Please arrive approximately 5-10 minutes early to complete a brief registration and to obtain a Take a Hike sticker. Allow additional time for parking, as well.
